Small Business Restructuring (SBR)

Helping financially stressed businesses understand their options through professional business advisory services and referrals to registered insolvency professionals where appropriate.

What Is Small Business Restructuring?

Small Business Restructuring (SBR) is a formal Australian insolvency framework designed to help viable small businesses manage debts while continuing to operate. It allows eligible businesses to propose a structured repayment plan to creditors instead of immediately entering liquidation.

Under the Small Business Restructuring process, an eligible business can continue trading while working with a registered restructuring practitioner to develop and implement a plan that is presented to creditors for approval.

When used appropriately, SBR can provide viable businesses with an opportunity to stabilise operations, improve cash flow, and work towards long-term financial recovery.

Is Your Business Eligible for SBR?

  • Total business liabilities of less than $1 million (eligibility threshold)
  • Currently experiencing financial pressure or cash flow difficulties
  • The business remains commercially viable with restructuring support
  • Tax lodgements are up to date or capable of being brought up to date
  • Ability to propose a realistic repayment plan to creditors

Our Role in the SBR Process

Elite Consultation Group provides business advisory services to help owners understand whether Small Business Restructuring may be an appropriate solution for their circumstances. We conduct an initial assessment, explain the available options, and help prepare businesses before introducing them to an independent registered liquidator.

We do not administer the formal Small Business Restructuring process ourselves. Where restructuring is considered appropriate, we refer eligible businesses to an independent licensed liquidator who is authorised under Australian law to undertake the formal appointment and administer the restructuring process.

Business Assessment

We review your financial position, operational challenges and business viability to determine whether restructuring may be an appropriate option.

Financial Review

We help organise financial information, identify key risks, and provide practical guidance before any formal insolvency process begins.

Referral to a Licensed Liquidator

If Small Business Restructuring appears suitable, we coordinate a referral to an independent registered liquidator who is authorised to formally assess and administer the restructuring process.

Ongoing Business Advisory

Where appropriate, we continue providing strategic business advice and support throughout your restructuring journey alongside the appointed insolvency professional.

Benefits of a Well-Planned SBR

  • Opportunity to continue trading while restructuring debts
  • Reduced financial pressure through a structured repayment proposal
  • Improved business stability and cash flow management
  • Potential to avoid liquidation where the business remains viable
  • Greater certainty through a formal restructuring framework

Important Considerations

Small Business Restructuring is not suitable for every business. Each situation requires careful financial assessment, realistic forecasting and consideration of all available options before proceeding.

Some businesses may be better suited to alternative insolvency solutions depending on their financial circumstances and long-term viability.

Elite Consultation Group provides business advisory and pre-assessment services only. Formal Small Business Restructuring appointments and administration are undertaken exclusively by an independent registered liquidator in accordance with Australian insolvency legislation.

Important Notice

Elite Consultation Group is not a registered liquidator and does not accept formal insolvency appointments. Where appropriate, eligible clients are referred to an independent licensed liquidator who is authorised to administer the Small Business Restructuring process under Australian law.

Why Early Advice Matters

Seeking advice early provides businesses with the greatest number of restructuring options. Delaying action can reduce flexibility, increase creditor pressure, and limit opportunities for recovery.

An early assessment enables business owners to understand their position, prepare the necessary financial information, and determine whether referral to a registered liquidator is the most appropriate next step.

Discuss Your Situation Confidentially

If your business is experiencing financial difficulties, our team can provide an initial confidential assessment and, where appropriate, refer you to an independent licensed liquidator for formal Small Business Restructuring advice.
